The Japanese Garden, also known as Seiwaen in Japanese, is a joint project by the Singapore and Japanese governments. It was designed to emulate the aesthetics of Japanese gardens during the Muromachi period (1392-1568) and the Momoyama period (1568-1615).

Sprawling across 12.14 hectares, the garden features Japanese stone paths, Toro stone lanterns, rock waterfalls, and a meandering stream. It boasts about 500 tons of rocks sourced from Japan and around 5,000 Nishiki koi (carp) swimming in its waters.
