ez-link card

DEFINITION

A smart card used primarily for the payment of public transportation fares. The Chinese character “卡” (kǎ) is the transliteration of the English word “card”.

ETYMOLOGY

  • The ez-link card is the first contactless card introduced in April 2002 by Ez-Link Pte. Ltd., a subsidiary of the Land Transport Authority (LTA). It is used for public transit, including the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), the Light Rapid Transit (LRT) and buses. The EZ-Link Card processes each transaction within 0.2 seconds, making travelling on public transport much faster and smoother.

SAMPLE SENTENCE

Topping up the EZ-Link card with account balance is indeed more convenient, but as the EZ-Link Reload credit card is already widely used, this plan may appeal more to the elderly. (Lianhe Zaobao, 2/2/2018)
