to promote a new book

To engage in promotional activity for a new book.

  • The Mandarin term “打书” is derived from the term “打歌”, which is used in Taiwan to describe the activities involved in promoting a new album, including publicity and sales events. The term subsequently spread to Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and Mainland China.
  • The term “打” has various meanings, one of which means “to be engaged in a specific activity or work”. Hence, the term “打书” means to be engaged in promotional activities for a new book.
